Do you need it to be compact? Have manual functions? Take AA batteries? Wide lens?

I personally wanted mine to be more compact, with manual functions, so wound up with a Casio Z750, which I'm very happy with so far. I recommend that you go to Dpreview and compare the P&S there... lots of options for you to choose from and customise so that you can end up with that perfect camera...

I chose the Canon Powershot A700 coz I wanted the following:
- uses AA-type batteries vs. proprietary li-ion batteries;
- SD Card vs. xD card as SD is cheaper for the capacity;
- Zoom lens from 35mm to 200mm (6x) vs. 3x;
- Viewfinder+LCD vs just LCD only;
- Manual controls: Aperture and Shutter priority;
- The protruding handgrip shape vs. the flat rectangular ones (easily slipped out of ur hands)

...though I like the F11, F30 series for its hi-iso low noise feature.

Well, it's your choice finally.

sony w100 out of budget i think... coz i saw the w70 already $600+ iirc. so w100 should be more exp.

currently shortlisted, in this order. the fuji f30, panasonic fx01 & nikon p4

actually i am checking out for my buddy, will recommended these models to him. he's looking to replace his old sony p&s so i thot of recomending another sony so that he can reuse his ms... but the fuji & panasonic look really good.

Sony W100 retail price is S$699.00 If bought from MS colour should be cheaper.

Currently Sony got promotion Free 512 Pro memory and 2 years extended warranty.
