Recommend a good P&S digicam?

What's a good point and shoot digicam to get? For newbies to snap photos of people etc., doesn't need to be too sophisticated but which produces pretty good-looking photos.
 

Hey I was just about to ask the same question! Should it have high optical zoom (more than 3x), short shutter lag or twistable LCD to enable shooting at waist level? :dunno:
 

I think the canon a40 is good.

Hm i dun think there's a pns which has twistable lcd
 

THe Canon G2 is ideal, gives good size images (11mb) from a 4mp chip, fast lens (f2.0-2.5) 3x Optical zoom.

The G2's good but a bit too expensive and full-featured... I'm thinking more in the range of the A40-- stuff for people used to snapping photos with compact cameras.

Casio 2900UX 8x zoom, 2.1MP, if u can still find one...abt $600 ~ $700.
