Look at this two samples from Steve Digicam on same subjects
1) 800uz
2) 5DM2

When in 100% view, the clock still appears very clear in the 800uz photo. However, it becomes very blur in the 5DM2 camera. Anyone can explain why? Does it have to do with DOF?

That is the ability of 5DM2... the ability to create really thin DOFs... so as to be able to isolate pimary subjects from the distracting backgrounds. It also depends on the lens used on the 5DM2, some lenses have softer border resolutions (less sharp).

In essence, the above clearly shows the power of DSLRs. To the laymen (people who have no idea about photography and DOF) would think PnS wins above because they get everything "in focus" (due to smaller aperture as well)... But if you stop down aperture on the lens on 5DM2, the image would probably be even sharper than the compact. My guess is, the picture from the 5DM2 was shot with the lens' aperture wide open.

it depends on alot of factors such as Aperture, point of focus etc.

The picture was shot at f/4 at 70mm focal length. If the used the Canon 24-70L, then it could be the lens too - the 24-70L is not a sharp lens (compared with other maker's 24-70 lenses).

If you look at the compact camera, it was shot with FLASH. It used an aperture of f/3.6 but at a focal length of only 10mm. So you can now use DOF calculators to do some simple maths.

Not a fair comparison won't you say? :)

obviously, the focus point is on the M&M... Just out the word "M". 5DMK2 capture much more details with almost no noise (without flash) compare to 800uz (with flash).

Anyway, this is a apple and orange comparison. Not to metion the scene is different

kriegsketten pretty much some up everything
