Lets say you have a FF body.... you have the 50mm and he 85mm... and now you are looking for a wider lens....
Which will you go for:

1. 24mm
2. 28mm
3. 35mm

:)

If I already have the 50mm and 85mm, I will go for the 24mm

If not i will go for the 35mm and 85mm

Actually it all depends on what you shoot and your shooting style

For general walkabout shooting and some form of event shooting....

I was in the same scenario. Got the 35 f2. But sold it and stucked to the 24-85 for its versatility as a general walkabout.

Go for a Zoom as a wide angle walk around

AF-S 16-35mm f/4 VR (Covers 24mm, 28mm, 35mm)

Thanks..... ya, 16-35 is a choice.. though cheaper then 24-70 but still quite high....... but you are right it will cover 24, 28 and 35mm....

Bro trd2970, how the perfromance of the 24-85??

If u r a paid pro shooter, go for 24-70/2.8. If u r hobby shooter, 24-85/3.5-4.5 is good enough. I m a hobby shooter. Had the 24-70 before. Sold it n bought a 24-85 instead. Very happy with the lighter more compact lens.

Well said. That's why never look at 24-70... the price cannot justify.... even a FF also cannot justify, but backside itchy for FF... that one another story....:embrass:

But was thinking if using for gathering shot evening type.... 24-85 can do the job... or the 28f2.G??

24-85 is decent. Reviews online are positive. Personally it's adequate for street and travel photography. For the more demanding iq work I still stick to primes.

For group shoot at night u will need flash and probably be shooting f5.6 (1/60) @ iso800. Don't need the a f2.8 lens.

Hi N-user, the 24-85 is wide enough for group size like one table during weddings, n when shooting in tight spaces. The 28mm/f2 probably offers better IQ, but u most likely won't shoot wider than f5.6 or else u won't hv sufficient DoF to keep to whole group in sharp focus. Also the 28mm may not be wide enough in a dinner table situation. The 24mm is wide enough so u r not forced to hv faces right the the edges (distortion).

I am exactly in the position, and I am considering the 24mm and 35mm prime.

The good thing is that I currently have a 14-24mm to cover for the 24mm and I hope to evaluate Sigma's new 35mm to see if it fits the bill. Hence, I can build up my lenses in a moderate manner.

Thank you Bro trd2970 and Bro sf-kang..... advise well noted..... looks like 24-85 is the way to go for the type of shooting I need.... best is its the cheaper of the whole lot.... in any case, if really kena prime poison, the 28mm and 35mm not too ex also.... ;)

24mm.. infact is 24mm F1.4 one of the best lens in nikkor lenses lineup... i have the following primes with me at all times... 24mm, 50mm and 85mm

FX 24mm and 35mm are a lot more expensive than the 16-35....

Hmm... Can also try the 2.8 primes. 20, 24, 28

My Choice will be 24mm.. coz it is one of the best:)
