Raffles City - Spring In The City (use only 85mm f1.2)

Today is my second attempt to shot at Raffles City - Spring In The City .

This time had decided to test my prime 85mm f1.2 lens without the use of flash.

Personally, the pictures are slightly too dark for my liking although I like the composition and details well captured.

although it's a little bit dark, but feel that this is very close to actual colour, though WB still a bit strange, or may be is my monitor :sweat: .

When you guys say dark, is it

1- subject dark, background bright ?
2- Background dark subject bright ?
3- overall, subject and background are dark ?

If it is 1 , maybe next time I can try to use some fill-in flash

If it is 3 , maybe pulling up the brightness level during pro-processing might help

Anyway I am darkforce mah so shoot also dark dark loh (just joking) :sweat:

As for the WB, I find it look OK on my monitor leh.

Anyway, its the surrounding which is dark, not sure its intentional or part of your workflow. But somehow, with this kind of brightness, the details are still kept and the whites are not overblown.


As for WB, there's no issue. Don't see any problems.

I think it's my monitor got problem instead :sweat:
mostly is the back ground dark.
a few of the subject feel a bit dark. But dark also make the subject more stand out.

It appears to be more of 3 and strangely, also a little of 1. The midtones are more on the dark side. So I suppose, to a large extent, it can probably largely be corrected by shifting the midtones in Levels. However, there remains an a high no. of pixels on the very dark side.

See the histogram : a proportionately high no. of pixels on the very dark side and notice the sharp jump in the left extreme of the histogram :

Excellent DOF at play here! I like the colours very much.

It is mixed lighting here for those who are picky about WB, if you know Raffles City well.

I do not think the pictures are underexposed at all.

Look like each of us got our own fav style of taking and processing photos thus it's is a very subjective area. Anyway, glad that you guys willing to open out to share.

Well,

I was happened to pass by Raffles City again yesterday evening. Did not manage to get the front line thus just have to stand on the side of the stage.

Since I was there , thinking of trying my luck to at least capture one photo. Here is it

In fact , that is the only one photo I took during the performance and left after that shots before the show end

At first she was facing the front , I could only see her side view. Suddenly she turn and do the swinging sleeve things and I quickly capture her swing with one shots. Did not notice she was actually looking at me at that moment until I view it in my camera display panel later . So heng .... I should go buy 4D tomorrow liao :bsmilie:
