Questions on screen resolution

Hi all,

Do any of you know if programs like Photoshop, Lightroom and Illustrator are running at 5120x2880 automatically or it is running at the default screen resolution set on the system preference.

I'm running it on the 5k iMac. Current display settings is at 2560 x 1600 as the system will be viewable for me. I can barely see the text if i set it on 5120x2880 as a default.
