Hi all,

I would like to find out more about ND and GND filters and when is it appropriate to use either one. From what I understand, ND makes it darker throughout, while GND is half dark in order to darken bright sky to ensure correct exposure for both land and sky.

Would it be possible to shoot a sunrise/sunset/landscape shot (and not end up without either over-exposure or a silhouette shot) without such filters? I guess this would be a question of metering as well I guess.

Also, I understand such filters come in grades of intensity... ND2, 4, 8 ....etc ... the answer to "which to use" would definitely be "depends on situation and desired effect" , but can some seniors help to explain, perhaps with some of your own photos?

Any help is much appreciated! ;)
