Question on mounting UV lens on lens kit

ZerocoolAstra is right. But if the AF mode is on instead of manual, then the lens will not rotate as you screw in the filter.

It can rotate even in AF mode... I can easily overcome the resistance of the AF motor and gears with my hand.
Therefore to play safe (kiasu-kiasi), best to hold the focusing ring firmly with one hand, and twist in/out the filter with the other free hand. This reduces/removes the strain on the gears and AF motor.

i'm using the default lens kit supplied with the sony alpha 230...

Like I said. 3rd time now. Hold it by the focusing ring and screw on the filter.

It's not rocket science.

TS, you're holding the zoom ring (which will extend the lens when rotated) and not the focusing ring if I'm not wrong. Hold the other rubber ring to screw in the filter will do. Alternatively, join us in our outing this Sat and we can do it for you.

thanks all for your advices~ i'll take note on where 2 hold when i fix on the filter... i'm basically just concern abt the focusing mechanism due 2 my incorrect holding when fixing the filter...

Hold the focusing ring in 1 hand and the filter in the other.
