The 'flower' shaped ones are made for specific lenses, unless someone's started to make generic versions.
Rubber, metal or plastic really doesn't matter. What's more important is the focal length (or lengths) of the lens as this has great bearing on the lens hood.
If you're using a zoom lens then a Rubber one like the Hama is ideal.
If it's a fixed lens then either rubber, metal or plastic will be fine.
