Any of you guys here have experience with a prolonged fever?

Mine dosen't seem to be subsiding..

Started last tuesday with muscle ache and tonsilitis. Was prescribed normal antibiotics.. but didn't seem to work.. on friday night, temperature was 39.3 degrees..

Went to see the doctor on saturday again.. decided to give me stronger antibiotics that costs $4 per pill ( damn expensive ).. these are the antibiotics - http://www.gsk.com.au/gskinternet/publishing.nsf/Content/Zinnat

Up till now.. fever still hovering around 38.4 degrees.. went to polyclinic this morning to take a blood test and xray... glad that nothing is wrong.. However, theres something weird with my fever.. the temperature can range quite drastically.

for example, when i went to see the doctor, i was feeling rather okay, temperature was about 37.5.. not very high. after his consultation, i went out to wait for my medicine. after about 10 mins, i felt very hot.. so i went to see the doctor again.. took my temp.. and now it was 38.4.. kinda weird.. happens a few times each day

Anyone experienced it before? How long did it take for you to recover? BTW, Im drinking lots of water a day..

Thanks

'Yin Qiao' cold tablets are good for less serious cold symptoms, i take that ocassionally also. but canonloverz, please don't mix your antibiotics with Chinese medicine without proper advise from your doctor hor, very dangerous. i used to feel like that when i have severe throat infections last time. rest more and monitor your condition lor, when in doubt don't hesitate to call up your doc.

You may want to go for blood test.

My friend have been admitted to hospital for 9 days & the doctor still can't diagnose any virus.

Poor chap have been undergoing several blood tests.

Finally, he just refused to go for any medical check up after that.

You may want to vist a Chinese sinseh who treat almost anythings at Highland Center.

Can you turn your head? Any stifness in the neck?

Are you throwing up and having bad headaches all day?

These are signs of menigitis for the above, and can be quite deadly. You ,ight want to consult a specialist. Get well soon.

If its a virus that is causing the fever, then no amount of antibiotics can cure it.
If its a bacterial infection, then the bacteria could have mutated hence rendering the antibiotic ineffective. Did u complete the dosage of the antibiotic?

Well, if u want to engage in some alternative medication... try brisk walking in the evening sun and make sure u sweat a bit. Exercise helps and take lots of Vit C, E

hmmm ... meningitis can be a very mean illness, i know of someone who died of meningitis within a day because the doc couldn't diagnose the condition

Hi,

I had this before too. Docs dunno what to make of it either. Since you've cleared the blood test, that should mean you don't have dengue. From what I understand, its a symptom of a viral infection. Mine lasted for a week and spiked to 40.1, had to take a cold shower and sleep with no blanket in the ward, damn torturing. Docs says to let it run its course. Somehow my body overcame it.

Besides drinking lot's of water, take lot's of fruits. You'll need all the vitamins you can get now, don't play cheat by taking vitamin pills coz most of it will just out thru your piss. Natural vitamins from fruits will be absorbed by your body whole heartedly.

Remember to keep yourself hydrated, if you don't and your fever spikes, you'll be looking at cold showers and saline drips.

If you have a religion, now is the time to make contact (pray)??

Good luck.
