Programmable Cameras

My previous camera was a Kodak DC240. I think even up till today, Kodak's cameras are programmable. They have written APIs for developers to use to interface with the camera for different applications. I've seen and written some test applications that controlled my camera to take shots.

Do the latest digicams have such programmability, other than Kodak's? I'm using a Olympus now, and I would like to see if I can control it using a software program via the USB cable.

Hi Lokety, I own a DC240 as well. Pardon my ignorance, but I really didn't know that the camera is programmeable. Thought it was just a point-and-shoot camera? One thing is for sure, it is a great camera that is capable of taking excellent shots most of the time. I've switched to a Nikon CP5700 now.

Yes, the DC240 was programmable, like many of Kodak's cameras. I think there is more support for its professional cameras though. Check out this link:

Hope you can find the SDK for your CP5700, which I like a lot.

I believe Canon's SDK is available, and that's where these guys develop these products (D30Remote, G2Remote etc) from :

Yes there is. But Canon only release the SDK to the member of their Developer Support Program who pay US$500/year membership fee.
