Product Shoot - High ISO

Hi all,

I have a light tent setup with 3 lights and a 30D + Tamron 17-50.

Recently tried shooting at a High ISO speed of like 800.

I know the higher the ISO the noiser the pics get, however I shot the same shot at 100 and 800 with the same setup (aperture and shutter adjusted accordingly) but I can't tell the difference between the 2 images.

Can anyone enlighten me on this? I'm not sure how does ISOs affect photos for product shoots.

just make a comparison of viewing the two images in 100% at the shadow areas you will notice the differences.

as catchlights already mentioned 100% crops of shadow areas will show the noise

but product shots don't move and you can use a tripod, why shoot with hi ISO?

I suppose the TS is shooting handheld instead.

unless you want grain for the shoot.

which is possible, but highly implausible for product shots, i 'd wager

Another reason could be where a very fast shutter speed is required, say to stop motion.

yes, we want clean and fine "grain" for most type of shots, especially for product shots, clear, sharp and faithful color reproduction are what we looking for.. so we don't use high ISO for product shot, unless you are going for mood shot

when doing the product shots, if the lighting is insufficient, for continuous light, you can lower you shutter speed, since the subject is static.

during the film days, we even do multiple pop flashes for product shots if the studio flash is not powerful enough.
