1. in what area is critique to be sought?

Wanted to know what you guys feel about the exposure, is it under exposed or over exposed and the focus

2. what one hopes to achieve with the piece of work?

Hope to have a DSLR effect with total white background and looks like it's taken under studio lightings

3. under what circumstance is the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)

It' actually taken using Canon G10 under natural sunlight. Using white cupboards as background. We don't have adequate lightings and therefore we increase the exposure.

4. what the critique seeker personally thinks of the picture

Personally I felt that it's not too bad. But would like to sought for professionals comments to improve further. This is our first time taking product photography. We certainly appreciate all efforts for the comments..;)

Help you corrected picture link with BBS codes...

So I believe the subject of your photo is the hair band. If you're just talking about the exposure on it, it's just right without blowing the light on the crystals. But overall, composition has a lot of room for improvement. The flowers and the reflections on the glass bowl is a distraction. There's a line on the left going into the flower and coming on and off in the middle of the picture. There's no such thing as dslr effect. Even with pns and simple lights that you use in your home as some have demonstrated, one could still produce good pictures.

even though the hair band may be the main focus of the picture, unfortunately the first thing my eyes jumped to when i looked at it was the flower. perhaps using a light coloured folower so that it would not be so distracting would be better

think the edges of your white cupboard are showing. crystal not popping enough, need some highlight. is the dish empty or there's a white substance inside ..

Too many distractions...

- Colour of flower is fighting for attention with the actual product.
- Too many objects in the pic to focus on

honestly, i have no idea what is the product. keep it simple or style it right.

agree. usually for product photography, the product itself is shown (maybe in this case the hair band?). the bowl (??) and the flower looks distracting. but i like the concept, just that it does not fit with the title i guess... :)

Thanks for all the reply~ Didn't know it was posted till now;p... We thought that it's kind of plain and we decide to add on some stuffs to make the image looks nice...Didn't know the main object[hairband] will be distracted by the flowers.. How can we make it look nicer (crystals popping) or just white background is fine?

We don't have adequate lightings except of the natural sunlight. We have intention to get 1 but it's kind of costly which is not quite cost effective for us..:(..
