As it has already been mentioned, AA would be the place to get the International license done. And don't forget you will need to bring a passport photo and I think $20, unless they have raised their prices since I last got mine.
frenchean, you could have been lucky that you didn't get into trouble, some cops in the US can be real jerks. If they wanted to make things difficult they could have.
But my suggestion, just to be on the safe side, is to get one.

After one year, took the tests.. and got a US driving license
no problems..
you can do it at AA in River Valley. Call them up to find out the time it will take.
Well, it's easy to get a license in the US with the DMV.
It's like 25 USD for the theory and 1x practical test. (Not sure for other states, but that's the rates for CA). License is valid for 5 years if you have green card or really long H1 visa.
Else it last you till the date specified in your I-94.
US driving test is much simpler
that time i took the test, i don't have to do online quiz. just written theory test. with regards to practical test, no questions asked.Hey Lenscapes,
Did you get a US driving licence?
For the state of IL, I need to do an online quiz and then do a practical which the test instructor will ask a few questions regarding safety and etc.
