Problems using canon ex 580 mkii

Hi

I'm having problems using canon ex580 mk ii which i borrowed from a friend on my 5d mk ii.

For some reason the distance always reflects 14mm and the LCD screen keeps blinking/ flashing.

Is it that the wide angle panel is not slotted in correctly? It explains the 14mm reading though.

The panel on top of the flash has not been stored properly. Just push it all the way in till there is a locking sound. After that it should be back to normal.

Reason: you have the built-in diffuser covering your flash-head. Push it back into its storage slot and you will be just fine.

14mm is minimum setting and when the out of its housing it will be set to 14 mm. Sometimes you have to pull it out and push it back in. Sometimes it is just not understanding that it will be fixed once the refused is down. Another reason could be that the owner set it to manual.
