I've just got a 430EXII and had some problems with it with my 450D

Below are the problems:
1) AutoZoom doesn't seem to work
2) One side of AF assist beam emitter doesn't emit light

3) When I'm taking shots continuously, there are chances when flash doesn't work in some shots.

This is the grey unit I bought from Alan Photo
Anyone pls advise. Thanks :)

1) AutoZoom doesn't seem to work

a) did you used zoom lens, and zoom in and out rapidly? could it be that the flash reflex not as fast as.
b) try cleaning the contact pins (flash) and pad (camera) with eraser.

2) One side of AF assist beam emitter doesn't emit light

AF assist light.
An important thing to remember is that the AF assist light works only if your camera is in One-shot mode - it will not illuminate in AI Servo or in any icon AE mode which employs AI Servo, such as the Sports mode. This is because the camera is constantly focussing and refocussing when in AI Servo mode, in order to track subject motion.

3) When I'm taking shots continuously, there are chances when flash doesn't work in some shots.

The flash needs time to recharge, try use battery pack. (but be warn, frequent use of rapid firing will reduce the life of the flash lamp and electric/electronic component.)

Flash must be pointing to subject. i.e. should NOT be bounced.

Sama sama

can you try switch to slave mode to see if the side you say no light will blink blink?

were you using only centre AF-point? both should light up when you select all the AF-points..

after selecting all AF points, now both AF assist light blink blink.

Thanks all :)
I'll try it and update
