Hi flks. I just came back from Bangkok yesterday. I just want to share this with you guys. This is the price list I got from one of the shop in MBK. Also for your information the price for a Sandisk 1 GB normal at Bangkok airport is about $630. I almost jump out of my pants when I heard that. And this is supposed to be duty free. Please note that I am posting this so that you guys can have a rough idea of the prices there. Some of you may be able to find cheaper prices somewhere else. I did not post this to argue with anyone. Just for info only.

1sgd ~ 23.4baht at the moment

i usually round it off to 1:25 for easy calculation when i'm there buying stuff on the spot, basically, take the baht amount, move two decimal places to the left (divide by hundred basically) and multiple by 4.

Hi Nightwolf. Of course I remember you. The rate given by j0h0 is about right. Thanks j0h0.

Tourist can get back 7% as VAT Refund.

Yup I did some shopping and got back my VAT at the airport in cash.

Hey i know that shop! I was there yesterday too! There's actually another shop on the higher floor in MBK... they sell all types of cameras and accessories... they also sell studio flashes and stuff like that... I forgot the name of the shop...

For the Nikonians there is a specialist shop all for Nikon too on the 3rd flr...

wah...good....i'll go there and see when i go Bangkok this coming july.

Hi Nickmak. Yup i've been to the other shops there too. They were too busy so I choose the shop at the lower level. MBK is pretty convenient for me as I stay at teh Marriot Spa & Resort hotel. Take the free hotel boat to Takshin Pier and then the Skytrain right to MBK.

Hey Nickmak, What's your opinion on the CF card prices there. Any good deal. So far what I've encountered is all pretty dissapointing.

Thks Jbma for the info. Just found out from the website that Canon 300D with kit lens is selling at THB36000 w/VAT, ie $1506 only. After VAT refund, it's just $1400!! That's cheap! The hindside of course is that it comes with local (Thailand) warranty which Canon Singapore will not honour.

Wow that is cheap. Even I am not aware of it. If not because of the local warranty then it surely is a good deal. Maybe you can talk to the shop and say you want to upgrade to an International warranty as you travel a lot. Might be worth paying that extra bit. Just my thoughts though.

Hmmm didn't know that or else me , you and nickmak could have made some effort to meet there and check out the camera prices together.

hi, so for 10D, 59800baht is about SGD$2500. is this including the 7% VAT? if so, VAT is about $175 for a 10D is about $2325 net am i right? if this is true, i am keen!!! without canon singapore warranty never mind since i do get to go bkk for biz trip v regularly. even a 2nd hand selling here is about $2k+ also and $2.3k get a new one i am keen!! but will i kana singapore GST? the official price can still bargain or not?? i have been plannig for a DSLR and seem it is now the time!!!

Hi Keith,

If you buy in Bangkok just carry it with you into Singapore and I don't think you will have to pay GST. Yes the price is including VAT so you can get back the 7% VAT from the airport. I guess you can still bargain with them so if you are good at bargaining then you should be able to get a pretty good price.

oh..this is GREAT NEWS! suppose to be heading to thailand in less than 1hr time for a biz trip but coz fri i going angkor wat, i am staying back to 'jaga shop'..hopefully july or aug i will go thailand for biz trip again then i can buy, provided i have budget enough for it.. but it damn good info for me. thanks!

No worries. Glad I could help.

It's all up there in the list
