Hello, photo gurus.

Need to ask a few questions.

How much does a pre-wedding typically cost? Market rate? And what are some of the packages most people are offering?

Is it reasonable if the photographer only releases edited shoots at his discretion and not give the unedited ones?

It will differ from each photographer.

As photographer, you would want to retain copyright and give out items that you are comfortable giving out. Some give prints, some album and some both and some even more things but some charges separately for their time and other items such as print and album. Lastly, it will really depend on how desperate the photographer wants the job.

In business practice, I do not give out unedited work and also put a minimum spending on the edited images and not available for purchase as individual item and I tend to charge a creative fee plus any other items that the client prefer.

The pre-wedding charges vary from $300 to few K or more depending on the photographer and on what the client after. So there isn't much of a market rate as the rates vary greatly.

Are you the photographer thinking whether you should give out the images to the client; or are you the client who thinks you have the right to ask for all the images to be given back to you?

Its ultimate up to you

as a photographer: if you wish to return the unedited images to the client, however I personally let the ch pick an agreed number of shots for retouching which eventually will go into the album.

as a client: if the photographer at the point of agreement, states that all the images are returned to you. And whether there is additional cost for extra retouching or to purchase the remainder of the images not selected for the album. But at the very beginning, you should be looking at the kinda work you like, the photographer you can work with and then the price and agreed deliverables.

Some times people get a little confused in thinking that more is necessarily better. Remember your photographer brings to the table more than just the ability to captured a picture. There is that creative/artistic finish to the selects which finalises the image. Asking all that was captured mean you get the culls ie NG`s means bad expressions, eyes closed, and well as seconds without the finishing work is weird because these images will have no value.

Pre wedding work is a service which a client purchases, there are a range of prices but no true market price. Example what is the market price of a pair of shoes ?

Perhaps it would be good if you clarify if you are asking as a service provider or as buyer of a service.
