• XJ visited Indonesia, addressed their Parliament, promised much trade & strengthening ties.

• (missing a certain country in between that was completely missed out, snubbed and ignored)

• XJ visited Malaysia, promised much trade & strengthening ties.

Hmm.... maybe this has to do with Wikileaks revealing SG VIPs did not think highly of XJ and LK to American diplomats.

Or maybe more recently when someone visited Japan and amazingly, sided with Japan in the quarrel that Japan had with PRC on the islands (Senkakau or Diaoyutai - take your pick of name).
It is not our quarrel, why take sides? To PRC, this is their sovereign territory. Of course they are offended.

This is a country who issues guidebooks on etiquette to their people who travel overseas. I won't miss them if they are gone for sure.

OR.... relationship is good enough that its not necessary to visit...

Or.. you're missing the 1 trillion dollar elephant in the room

perhaps you should read about the TPP and what China is doing to counter it?

Own Canton, don't need to visit what.

Lee Hsien Long just met up with Xi Jinping in China august this year, less than 2 months ago.

He got a very cold reception and they quickly shunted him off to the outer regions of PRC, Xinjiang and the message is they do not want to see him. At that time the controversy over what was said in Japan (supporting Japan's claim to the islands) was raging in PRC Internet.
So understandably, the PRC top leaders want to keep their distance away from him, to placate the PRC public. Toxic for the time being.

However, Mr Xi, who is likely to be unveiled as the Communist party's top leader after the 18th Party Congress in mid-October, was reported to have injured his back. He also cancelled his other engagements on Wednesday, including a meeting with Singapore's prime minister, Lee Hsien Loong.
sauce

er, the article is dated 2012.

Anyway MFA clarification is public

The very initial report by Ta Kung Pao seems to have been taken offline.

China has been actively engaging countries with natural resources. Both Indonesia and Malaysia have plenty. Singapore has none. Maybe that is the reason.

ya, i tend to agree on this.

and moreover, they hv already sucked dry singapore liao. LOL

It is a practical world.

Meanwhile PM Lee reiterates the importance of the US's role in Asia and how Singapore is 100% behind the U.S.

Actually, he said this:
Quote:
“And America has to continue to be engaged in this region because it plays a very important role which no other country can replace, not China, not Japan, not any other power. And that is something which we continue to encourage in every opportunity.”
UnQuote

And he is correct.

But no need for SG to take sides in Japan vs China quarrel.

For some of us who have lived in China and heard what was going on back inbthe day, there is no surprise that XJP shuns Singapore

People tend to remember how they were treated before they rose to power.

;)

.... we engaged them only recently prior to the event!

There must be a balance of power in the region. It must strike a balance.

Till to date, China is only concentrating on building her economical power. They day will come when she can counter US in term of military might.

Politically, China had lost some and won some.

Obama has his priority! He did not attend the summit!

In Africa, thousands are killed everyday. Who care! UN, US or China?

At the end of the day.. the question is "What is in for me?" be it US or China or even UN!
