Buy november's copy to read why they rate it like it is....

Cheers

This is the $buying$ guide rite?
Meaning performance not included in the decision?

I read through and think it is a mix of factors ranging from
optical / performance, built + feel and value.

Most interesting to me was the fact that some of the
top lenses from some big camera brands weren't even
listed.....

maybe coz they're too $$$.

From the UK prices that was listed amongst the choices, it was quite fair amongst the stuff they picked.

U r right about why some of the stuff i was hoping to find wasnt listed.

Guess they have to be realistic about the masses and not the select privileged few who can spend as they wish.

But i think it is a good base with which consumers can base their choices on..... amongst some of the few stuff they listed, I agree on the
mid range 35mm and digital cameras, the tokina and canon wide angle zooms, the tokina and tamron standard zooms ....

i am not sure why canon tele zoom was only given a 3 star......but i must say that the nikon 80-200 is really a fantastic lens!

the one brand that strikes me is Sigma...they have really grown in stature...i recall Sigma lenses in the 80s as Stigma lenses....no one wanted to use them because optics were so bad.

Listing of top buys for lens across the board is useless. For a Canon user or Nikon user unless it is a 3rd party lens work with your camera who cares about other brands?

Agree that it is useless for the consumer if any magazine rates another camera branded lens as being the best......

However, if there are more than 1 magazine saying the same thing, it will mean that the manufacturer will sit up and hopefully do something about it...or else, consumers will give up and change brand loyalty.

I for one, gave up on Nikon to move into Canon for AF and Digital becoz I got tired of waiting for Nikon to catch up.....I always get the feeling that they have been sitting on their laurels far too long and lost their edge.

Anyway, thats off thread discussion. Have a great weekend everyone!
