while having a tea break a thought came out to me saying.......

"What makes a Popiah great? Why do I like this Popiah from this particular stall?"

please share your experience of what you think that makes the popiah taste good. btw do share the location of the stalls so that other CSers to enjoy them too. i for one would like to try them out.;)

thanks in advance.

I am bit of a popiah fan but not been so keen after eating the one at Lau Pa Sat. Think it was the one that does a "special" crab meat one. After eating that I feel like I am completely high, can't concentrate and very light-headed. Very strange sensation!

Home-mde popiah use bamboo shoots rather than turnip (mankuan). Much sweeter and more ex... What about the prawns, crabmeat, etc etc etc...that you don't get in commercial ones.

turnip must be juicy and the juice exploding into the mouth upon munching, bean sprouts must be crisp and crunchy, then the fragrance from egg bits and sometimes other stuff like prawn/sausage/peanut bits etc., wrapping skin must remain dry after wrapping, prawn paste just enough to let the taste seep through the mixture ... yum yum

i like the one at Costa Spice Kopitiam in Compasspoint

The one sold by the Nonya food stall at Sim Lim Square is the best I've tasted so far. Their Nasi Lemak is damn solid too. Highly recommended!
