How it all come about.....

Dear Polaroid lovers and enthusiasts,

As we all know that Polaroid Corporation had
announced on 8th Feb 08 that all production
of instant films will cease and Polaroid films
will be discontinued, it is heartbreaking to
know that we will not be able to do much to
save the remarkable invention of Sir. Dr Edwin Land..

Just some information..

The first polaroid picture was presented to the public in 1947,
followed by the launch of the first polaroid camera (model 95)
both by Sir. Dr Edwin Land. This amazing invention of polaroid
had brought us almost countless of polaroid tools.
Among these outstanding optical masterpieces is
the original SX-70 presented in 1972. It was a breathtaking success
that had Sir Dr Edwin Land featured on the frontpage
of many magazines all over the world.

It is indeed heartbreaking to hear Polaroid Corporation's
decision to cease the production of instant films.
And to make it worse, discontinuing all polaroid films
as mentioned above. Believe it or not, the stock for Instant film
and the 600film will be available only till end of this year and early 2009!
My heart skipped a beat when i read abt that!

Yes, we all have to move on with technology,
but it is indeed a pity to have digital tech taking over
the primitive method of phototaking such as Polaroid/instant pictures.

Please check out this website to find out more: www.savepolaroid.com .

I know i cant do too much to save polaroid,
thus am hoping that Ilford and Fuij will someday
take over to sustain this piece of art and keep it alive! ... Just hoping..

After much procrastination and scepticism,
Ive finally decided to highlight and create this
awareness to all polaroid lovers about what
they will be missing out in a few years as
i see people abandoning polaroids carelessly..
the beautiful invention of Sir. Dr Edwin Land.

Therefore, I sincerely hope that you will be
with me on this becos it is not easy. If u share my passion,
that's great. If u dont, u can perhaps pick up one or
two valuable thing out from it.. New things come and go,
dont they? If only we can make them stay forever..
that will be so nice..Just a food for thought..

This will be a get-together event cum competition,
and a showcase on a small scale of my own polaroid cameras collection. :bsmilie:
It will be an event mainly for Polaroid only.
A wall of polariod pictures will be formed to allow people
to look and remember this great invention of instant pictures
and let everyone be know aware what they
will be missing out in time to come.

(Sorry everyone! The idea of the Polaroid's wall has been cancel!!!)
The main reason why i remove this idea to form this Polaroid's wall
is that i do not have much people interested to do this with me
and with only one person doing this Polaroid event is really hard for me
to get this Polaroid's wall together!

This is will be a non profit event and I am doing it out
of pure interest and my love for Polaroid.

Big Thanks you to CATHAY PHOTO, J2E Photography and Admin from Clubsnap
for supporting my idea to make this Polaroid event possible!

Humble suggestion.. why not a user-contributed wall? All you need is some large pieces of white or colored foamcore board (to stick polaroids on), and some sticky tape and scissors or tape dispenser.. just like in your graphic above :) Then let the users stick anywhere, at any angle, as long as they don't cover or block someone else's photo.

Foamcore is very light and easy to move around, since it is after all.... foam. Should be quite easy to find, most art supplies places should have.

That way the wall can be a reminder of that day as well as get people involved and provide something for future polaroid users to look forward to.

Thanks for your post. :)

To get the wall done to hold the pictures are not too hard.
But, the hardest part is to get 600 - 1000 polaroid pictures for everyone
it not easy. I really give up asking! I try a few forums and some online site!
No one are interested. Really sad! But, i cant wait for everyone i have to move on!
The show must go on! We have 1month to go! If people are interested still?

I will form the wall if i have more that 800 - 1200 pictures.!

Cheers!

Wah...! 800 is ambitious :)

Not saying it is a bad idea but perhaps starting small (80 Polaroids?) might work a bit better. I have also cross-posted your event to FilmSG, they are film shooters but also support polaroid. Maybe they can help.

Ambitious? :bsmilie:

80 pictures will not form a wall maybe more like a polaroid pictures frame?
I have about 100 close too 200 polaroid pictures and it will not be fun to
put a wall just my pictures alone. :bsmilie: Getting all the pictures together
are not as easy as you think. (ask all Lomotion guys you will know )
It not easy to put it up as well. All your effort and it just a 2 day event.

For now i just have to put all my effort on the Polaroid photography competition
and my showcase of polaroid cameras! Like i say.
