hi,

interested in landscapes, sports, events(dnd etc) and portraits in order of preference. i am not really into birds/flowers/macro yet

so wld like to seek ur advise for a zoom(prob 70-200mm) and wa(pls advise) lens for D70

i am under tight budget constraints. so pls dun quote the super duper lenses

thanks!!!

guess you have to define your tight budget.. 70-200 isn't cheap in my context but seems affordable to others.

But is seems teh 70-200 VR is very popular in here.

WA would be the 12-24 /f4

I have neither. Just been hearing a lot of people owning them in here.

If you are on tight budget, you should also seriously consider sigma, tamron or tokina lenses. For 12-24, Nikon, Sigma and Tokina all have a model each. Same for long zoom.

While 70-200 is a very good lens, if you have tight budget, why not start with a 70-300G first. It is much much cheaper. Upgrade later when you have saved enough.

how come a 70-200 is more expensive than a 70-300mm?
i dunno wats the prices for lenses r like, basically getting a D70 soon and will be looking to get a couple of lenses.
anyway, whats the diff between all the different lenses?

like VR etc...
thanks

see www.nikon.com.sg to have a look at the list prices, so that u have an idea of the relative prices.

since u r there, look at the lenses specs and the terms like VR..for nikon

It sounds like this is your first SLR. If so, I suggest you don't buy the 70-200 yet because for the price of that one lens alone, you can buy a few other very useful lenses that you can enjoy. Also, the 70-200 is very heavy. You should get something easier to handle so that you can learn/enjoy your photography and get to know how to use the camera.

The kit lens is a very capable lens. 18-70mm is a very good walk-around lens. Don't invest in a WA lens yet until you are quite sure 18mm is not good enough for you. If you want a longer zoom, the 28-200 (less than $600) is quite good value for money. Slap on a Nikon 6T and you can do macro photography. Then get a 50mm F1.8 (below $200) for low light portrait photography.

Zoom lense = ~$320+ (Nikon AF-G 70-300mm) - the ED costs 620. or just get the sigma.. 300+ also and has 2 ED elements.
Prime lense = ~$170 (Nikon AF-D 50mm f/1.8) <-- good lens.

i was recommended these. but i dunno if the prices are true. anyone can advice where to get em?

last checked yesterday aft at MS-C:

Nikkor 70-300G w/nikon warranty...S$280
Sigma 70-300 Apo Macro II...S$330
Nikon 50 1.8D w/nikon warranty...S$175 (this w/g)

first 2 quotes possibly b4 GST.

though i own the Nikkor G, which i felt was a pretty (and surprisingly) good price-performer (this given that the user observe some fundamental tele-zoom techniques), the Sigma would still probably win it, if everything else equal.

cheers

what do u mean by fundamental tele-zom techniques ah?
paiseh,i still new

70-200 is normally those constant F2.8 so it is damn expensive
$1500+ and 2000+ for the VR version
while 70-300 is F4-5.6 normally

for tight budget you can get 70-300G and the Kit Lens ...
