I'm looking for a nice, comfortable cafe where I can work on my laptop through fast wifi for an extended period of time.
I'm quite sad that Geek Terminal has closed down.
Does anyone know something like that or some decent speed cafe?

I would like to get recommendations for cafes with
- Free Fast Wifi Access
- Power outlets available
- Reasonably-priced food and drinks
- East side or Central location

Maybe we can compile a list here.
Please don't tell me MacDonald's or Starbucks, unless it is specific outlets with their own fast connection.
Please don't tell me places using the slow Wireless@Sg network.
There are many free wifi places but I only want to know about those that offer decent speeds.
I do not expect split second website loading, but in general, it should take less than 3 seconds to load a typical website (not AV content rich).
Thanks!!

You will NEVER get that, because all such cafes are flooded with students facebooking or playing Diablo online, thus choking bandwidth. And worse yet, if we make a list, those spots will be flooded ASAP.

You want free, you want fast, you want cheap food... Dream on!!!

TSK TSK.

and this is the reason why Singaporeans want..

1) an effective government
2) but they must be cheap and working for a pittance
3) efficient too, (with the current pool of opposition talent i'm wondering where they're gonna get people to staff the ministries)

:bsmilie:

DREAM ON

Maybe that's why geek terminal is closing down? Too many leechers and not enough revenue. :bsmilie:

Areas supported by wireless@SG
but recently seemed to be rather inconsistent in connection, for one of my favourite haunts

Come to my place.
I've got fast internet connection.
And I make great Kopi.
:bsmilie:

Any chance your SION kopi is on the house?

This is not true. It depends on the type of cafe and the location.
There are many cafes with free wifi, no students.
I think you get the idea that all cafes are like McCafe/ Starbucks?
I don't even consider McCafe as a cafe; that's a fast food outlet come on.
And Starbucks is not a real cafe too; that's a commercial coffee chain that does better marketing than coffee!
That's why these places attract students lol!

And which self-respecting gamer would go to a cafe to play games seriously?
They would go to a LAN gaming centre.
The wifi at cafes cannot support their games at all.
Looks like it's you who are dreaming - come back to reality! :bsmilie:

By the way, I had already found recommendations and lists before starting this post.
I just wanted to see if people here had anything to add.
Looks like not.

Sorry. Rashkae said nothing about Starbucks or McCafe. You're the one mentioning it.

Seems like you're someone who wants quality coffee with your free wifi.

And any self-respecting GAMER will rather build his/her own rig and customize it to their liking and skills rather than play at a crappy LAN shop.

You need to learn humility dude

cafe and restaurants offer wifi as complimentary service... how fast and how reliable you expect their wireless network to be?

you should really consider getting BBoM if you need frequent access the Internet when you are on the go.

LOL I think you need to open your eyes more when you walk past a cafe - you would be amazed how many are playing Diablo3 on their laptops in a Starbucks.

I tot many of us are already on 3G or even 4G phone plan. And that comes with hotspot or internet tethering or whatever you call it. Why the need to depend on the wifi at cafes?

Unless you need to do lots of "work" there.

There's always the Burger King, suprisingly good and no login needed. Also Antoinette at Mandarin Gallery, blazing fast net when connected to... -secret, once you're there will know-, no login needed.
Nah, gamers can't use most laptops for Diablo 3, as the requirement is high. Even will get a bit lag in on a 16gb i7 laptop, tried it, but I don't play games.

It's no longer a secret since you revealed that it's there
