Buying one for my mom.
I think the Canon Ixus range looks good.
But i'm worried about the battery life.

Generally, i'm looking for a small, stylish looking compact cam with:
i) image stabilisation
ii) good battery life
iii) good image quality
iv) wide lens prefered
v) low noise in high ISO/ good for low light shooting conditions
vi) some manual controls would be a plus
vii) relatively good macro ability

Please advise! :)

think the IXUS 850IS fits your bill..

a review on it here..

thanks for the really prompt replies guys! ;)
i've heard about the powerful f31fd, read the cnet review too.
all in all, it's one great camera, but my mom doesn't like the design. :(

One of the best small digicam is the olympus mju 770... esp good if u snorkkel as it's waterproof up to 10m w/o casing, shockproof and small and handy.

I bought it for abt 615 from CP

panasonic LX2? for image stabiliser n iso 3200

fujifilm f31fd is good but no image stabiliser ler..

a camera is for taking picture...not for its design...those ppl who go for designer camera prob regret they ever did.

i like Olympus dSLR but i do not like any of the compact camers from Olympus

For your mum, I would suggest the Canon Ixus 850IS. Small and stylish, decent amount of control and good picture quality, just nice for a lady.

can't believe RICOH GX100 hasnt been mentioned yet :p

May not fit the bill if TS's mom is still fussy about the design and it is more expensive. Will be good if TS can tell us the budget too.

If these are of no concern, I will recommend GX100 :)

recently just sold away my TZ-3....:(

now searching for a handy & compact P&S camera.... have 2 in mind (panasonic fx01 and ricoh caplio r4).:D

anybody can commend on these 2 cameras?

yups i'd agree with the ixus 850 IS

as for battery life... for a full morning to night shoot, you definitely need two batts. from experience, the batt on my ixus 750 dies at like early afternoon after a morning of shooting, so its about 6 hours give or take?

So what is the street price for the
fujifilm f31fd and the
Canon IXUS 850IS ?
