Pine Cones and a Candle

I shot this with my Canon XTi and was just setting it up to start taking some more pics outside of the house I was staying in while I was in Orlando this last month. I wasn't going for anything specifically but i thought it turned out fairly clean and crisp. I have had at least three people remind me about the rule of thirds, i just snapped the pic. Let me know what you think.

1) dun cut away the plate
2) underexpose, meter the objects beside the lamp instead of metering the lamp
3) messy background
4) wrong angle (non flattery of subject)
5) wrong place & setting (background dun compliment subject)
6) wrong composition technique, dunno which part of rules of third is this.
7) horizon tilted
8) add more when i think i need to add

overall, a bad snapshot.

hi dru323, pls let me know if you want me to delete this version.

i feel your background is abit too messy.
i crop, make it warmer, adjust contrast abit, sharpen abit.

your version does not work as well. due to the big clutter on the lower right and the table surface on the left. and the lamp definitely look weird in this crop. esp with a vertical line that look slanted.

this is definitely more pleasing to the eye...
