i am currently using CS2. Need to ask cser if i desaturate a photo (ie black n white), how to re-state a selected part of photo to its original color? can share the steps to achieve this effect? Tx !

Straightforward way:

1) History brush.
Go to the HISTORY panel tab. Click on the square box (left side of the History step just above 'Desaturate'
Paint the colors back to the specific spots in your shot

Laychay way.

2) Lasso and Invert selection
Using the Magic wand/ Lasso tool (which ever you are comfortable) and select the object U want to remain in color. and then invert the selection and then desaturate.

or u can do the layering way,

create another layer, desat the above layer, then apply a layer mask and paint back the places with want the colour with a black brush.

 My preferred method.

Use adjustment layer to desaturate then paint the layer mask of the adjustment layer to black to recover the original colours. Best method to keep your file size small and low memory usage.

tx folks !! got it done !
