Photoshop 7 Queries

Greetings fellow ClubSnappers,

Thought of using this thread for photoshop queries.

Anyway, how do you guys blur part of a picture? Let's say a pics with 4 birds, i wanna only blur the 1st bird, how do I do it?

Also, how to make whole photo into black & white?

Lastly, is there something like making a photo reddish, "blueish", or reduce reddish etc?

But I'll try...
1. use magic wand click on the bird to be blurred. when bird outline is highlighted, then filter/blur or blur more.. heheh

2. Image, adjust, desaturate.

I would recommend magnetic lasso rather than magic wand, better accuracy. Then use freehand lasso to add/subtract to the selection to finetune.

hmm.... I have new question.

How do one blur a certain area in a picture?
Example, a picture with a name on it, wanna blur it..... so that others cannot see the name.

Take for example the above picture. How do I blur the nick "Baka^Des" so that people won't know it's "Baka^Des"?

How about something like pixel blur or censor? A nice nice blur without affecting / distracting the whole picture very much.

ok, you use the marquee and select a box around the words. Then apply gaussian blur.

For single coloured background, instead of blurring out, just cover it up instead. You can just copy a small selection of the background and paste over the name, or choose the background colour with the Eyedropper and use the brush to cover up the texts, or even use the Clone Stamp for it.

To make a picture more reddish, blueish etc: Image, adjust, variations.

A better way is to use Hue & Saturation.

And always make your changes using Adjustment Layers so that you can still retain your original while you make changes.

This only applies to PS6>....use the Layers Window and you should see at the bottom a circular (black&white) button which when clicked..allows you to choose many different adjustment layers..."Curves".."Levels" ..."Hue & Saturation"..etc etc.....

Then choose the HUe & Saturation...it will apply a layer over your existing image and allows you to change accordingly...the HUE, SATURATION and LIGHTNESS...furthermore..you can choose which channel you wanna adjust it...

But important thing is always use layers to make backup of your original...although you might end up having a big PS file...but you'll always get to redo what you've done w/o messing up your original.

Magnetic Lasso traces the object when by comparing the edges of an object with the surrounding....so if you have distinct color difference..it will pick up the difference and lasso round it....

For Magic wand..it will sort of select similar value pixels....depending on the tolerance value you set...a small tolerance (eg. 1) will select pixels of the same color....and so on.....

depending on what you wanna use it for..if you are selecting a big patch of background of similar color..then use magic wand and set your tolerance level accordingly...then adjust with the free lasso tool.....

With the free lasso tool...you have absolute control how u wanna do it...you can draw it free hand....or you can press your "OPTION"(or ALT on PC) and click click click the area you want....once you selected the area...you can also press the same "OPTION/ALT" to subtract...or press SHIFT and CLICK to add additional areas.....

you can also use "SELECT" menu to do some changes like smoothing the selected area....contract/expand....and also can do some effects by using the "feathering" option...this will blur the edge of the selection and you can do those gradual blurring effects on pictures....

Also, how to make whole photo into black & white?

Something I learnt in one of those PS masterclass....

if you wanna create a truely "black/white" image...like how they do it in blackroom..(i've er..no idea in this but mabbe the experts might add)....

is when you have a color image...add two adjustment layers of "Hue & Saturation" to the image....set the first adjustment layer's "SATURATION" level to zero...which will remove the color from all....then the 2nd layer (below the top saturation 0 layer"....you can then use this as a filter to control the level of "RGB or CMYK" .....

I remember a fren mentioning that this is how you do it in dark rooms.....

hey, how about those like "censor" ?

using big pixels? you know those porn one.... they censor away some parts....
