Photos of S'pore defense force

Hi,

I was approached by a international company to do a series of various photos which include pictures of police car, military soldiers in uniform. Some shots are to in active location like the training area. Building of such are also require.

For these shots, do I need to write in for permission from the person in charge or the premise?

Or does my clients needs do these paper work for me?

Appreciate some advice.

both sides. 1 side need to verify the purpose, 1 side need to acknowledge the reason.

singapore has got too many security laws and reasons, and some boundaries that you can't cross.

even the SAF's own active soldiers are not allowed to bring in cameras, due to security sensitivities.

what more outside photographers?

i believe writing into mindef's public relations office could yield more concrete answers.

i shoot from inside the force. used to shoot for MOD for certain events / reports..
although public media would wants to buy the shots, is a no-no situation.

Just like to find out if anyone has done shots previously and whether your clients write to the ministries or you as a photographer has to do it yourself.

I am looking into airport, police station, military training area ( CCK perhaps ), vehicles with man in uniform.

Are you shooting on behalf of the relevant ministries (Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) etc. etc.) whose contract for the photography services would most probably be tendered out through GeBIZ or is it purely for commercial purposes? :think:

If it is purely for commercial purposes, you can almost forget about getting approval for it due to the hassle of adhering to protocols in the interest of national security (background checks, removal of sensitive materials etc. etc.). I work in a protected place at Changi Airport and had witnessed professional media production crews being escorted around by auxiliary police officers as they are not allowed to aim or direct their equipments towards certain locations even with an official photography permit from the authorities.

Just sharing some experience...

Last year, we went to thailand for a division exercise, a camp mate of mine was the tasked
to take the pics throught the exercise.

All the pics were then sent to Midef for screening and took couple of months for the approval to release only part of the pics due to classified information and equipments.

So perhaps you can share this with your client.

The answer will be in all probability a NO.

Even when my client(a veh supplier) wanted to shoot their own vehicles, which was supplied to the SAF and Home Affairs, could not get clearance to do it at their training area/facilities. Even with their own talents and mock up weapons at the training area/facilities also cannot.

Yeah, no photos thats the bottom line. Unless you are in the Film Crew unit, otherwise. Not even allowed to bring camera into camps.

Unless u wait for OPEN HOUSE. which is very viariable.
