Hi,

I am interested to know what is the prospect of photojournalism in Singapore?
To get into this industry, do I need to obtain a recongised certificate, etc?
Where can I go for the course?
Please fill me in.

1. Put together a good personal portfolio. Paper certs is a good-to-have and useful for the company to place u on a salary banding. No cert means lower starting pay but dun mean u will be rejected.
2. Apply directly to SPH HR Dept. Check their website.
3. U may wish to apply to the magazines as well.

But is there a place to learn photojournalism?

There's is no general degree in journalism. But those that would fit would be the following but not limited to (assuming you are joining a general press):

1) Degree in Mass Communications

2) Degree in Political Science

But of course if you are into specialised journalism such as medical journals or Tech magazines, other qualifications applies.

Photography is part of journalism, not otherwise. (ie. you must write and know what are you writing and what is the thing you are taking photo of)

Generalist (ie. those without relavent qualifications) will usually do a generalist job which you may find degrading. Generalist job are also know as cameraman job or image assistant; the editor want some photos (usually those not important ones), orders sent, you get the orders you take the photos and it can range from taking some building photos to some artifacts or products.
