I was wondering, what do you guys think photography has become in present day?

Considering that this is the alternative thread, i know a lot of you guys will just say its a 'don't think just shoot', expressive kind of activity.

But what i really want to find out is, what do you guys think makes a good picture?

Is a good picture something aesthetically pleasing?
or should it be technically right (ie how people in the C&C segment judge it)?

i personally feel that photography is art (no matter how bad your photo is, haha) and art is something that should invoke emotions (negative or positive, both acceptable).

please comment!!! :)

i good photo just looks good when you look at it. I feel it's very individual. better photos looks 'good' to a bigger group of people. less 'good' pictures appeal to a more specialised group of people. While a small minority enjoy pictures which majority of people thinks a look is far too much.

a good photo is one you look at and think"nice pic"
its a picture YOU like
of course not everyone will see it the same way
but you cant please everyone

some people are just too obsessed with equipment. photography is an art. photographers must think like artists. and art seeks the truth.

the are many kinds, types, categories of photography, each serve different purposes

which one are you referring to?? please be more specific.

my simple answers:

when I shoot for my customer, they like it and willing to buy, this is good picture.

when I shoot for myself, I see it and I feel great, this is good picture.

when I show my photo to someone, they get inspired or evoke an emotion, this is good picture.

spending too much money on equipment does not guarantee will make good pictures
spending too much time on photoshop does not guarantee will make good pictures
spending too much time on shooting aimlessly does not guarantee will make good pictures
spending too much time on clubsnap forum also does not guarantee will make good pictures

i think it is for ppl( like me) who can not paint or draw. :)
