Photography as a Career

Speaker: Mr Ruey Loon from 36frames.com


Ruey Loon is a professional photographer based in Singapore. He completed his degree in Computer Engineering in 2002, but his passion for image created led him to taking on photography as a career. After 2 years of working from home, he decided it was time to set up a studio and start building his team. His first studio was located at Selegie Road where people like Prof. Tommy Koh and Taufik Bautista had their portraits taken. In addition to his commercial photography work, he also lead a team in doing wedding photography and videogaphy. His work has taken him to places like China, Japan, Australia, Sri Lanka, Qatar and France.

Ruey Loon has exhibited his works and also participated in many group exhibitions. In 2010 he shared his experiences at Clubsnap Live at the Singapore Art Museum. He also presented at PLATFORM in 2013.

In recent years he has also taken on production of corporate videos in which he conceptualise and direct.

In his free time, Ruey Loon relaxes with his wife and westie, Rufus over a game of Streetfighter IV. He can be contacted at rueyloon@mac.com, or tracked down at the local video arcade.
