For photography, if you plan to go Borobudur, best to stay there one night before touring Borobudur.
From Jogja to Borobudur got a distance.
Best to join the sunrise tour. Worth the money, though a bit ex to me. (IDR380 000; http://manoharaborobudur.com/package/).

It is best to stay at Manohara itself so you can enjoy the 230,000 IDR price for the sunrise package. And the walk from hotel to borobudur is a lot closer than the main gate. And the normal tic price for Borobudur for foreigner is already priced at 190,000 per pax at the main gate (without sunrise package).

BTW it takes around 40-45mins by car from city center of Jogja to Borobudur.
