Photo editing

Was just wondering, what are some ways to enhance the glow and richness of the colours thru editing? And what are some basic adjustments that are common for beginners to learn and work on?

im a media student, but am more versed in videography and journalism, hence zilch knowledge about photography or photoshoping, heh.

my first attempt taking my camera out for a walk. do help me by pointing out any thing you think i can improve on.

hey man.

duplicating the layer then changing the blending option to overlay helps with contrast. but you need to lower the saturation to get the colour right.

using a high pass filter under filter>other>high pass also helps (to be done on a separate layer also and also overlay blending option) i dunno if i make any sense. play around with it.

First thing I usually do is open an image in Photoshop and adjust the 'levels' so that the shadows and highlights markers are at the ends of the histogram. This immediately improves the contrast and tonal quality. Very often that's all that's required, because if you try to go adjust other things with a jpeg image it will sometimes lose quality and get 'noisy'. Other good photo editors should have a levels adjustment like Photoshop.
