In support of the various Arts and Heritage festivals held in the period of May to September 2012 , Insight: Bonding Through the Arts + Heritage is a nation-wide photography competition organized by The Frontier YEC and supported by National Heritage Board and Singapore Arts Festival 2012. It will be taking place in the period of May to September this year.

This competition comprises of 2 age categories: 20 years and below/21 years and above. We therefore invite YOU to submit a photograph relating to the theme “Bonding through the Arts + Heritage”. 40 short-listed works will be printed and exhibited during Arts Fiesta @ Pioneer, a mega community wide arts event held at The Frontier CC on 15th September (Saturday) and viewed by at least 1500 people. For each category- 1st Prize: $500 CASH 2nd prize: $300 CASH 3rd prize: $200 CASH and Merit prize: $100 CASH

We also conduct FREE complimentary guided group tours of the Singapore Arts Festival, Singapore Heritage Festival and Singapore Night festival for all registered participants. Participants can take the chance to capture photos relating to the theme of this competition during the tour.

4. Hari Raya Adilfitri at Geylang Serai & Kampong Glam, 19th August 2012. "Also known as Hari Raya Puasa, this Muslim festival marks the end of Ramadan, a month-long period of fasting and abstinence. There is 1 segment which could be relevant to this Insight: Bonding through the arts and heritage competition - At 3.45PM, Char Lee (Second Shot) and Zakaria Zainal (Zakaria Zainal | Photographer | Singapore & Asia) will be covering "A Picture’s Worth a Thousand Words"

You can also sign up for a special neighbourhood tour of either Chinatown or Queenstown, which will take place immediately after the workshop. The tour will be conducted by a heritage blogger who knows the area inside-out and who will share some fascinating stories about each neighbourhood.

Please not that this workshop/tour is not conducted by The Frontier CC YEC. However, the content of this workshop is highly relevant to the competition which we are organizing and therefore we encourage participants to join. We will be conducting seperate photoshoot tours to heritagefestival venues later in July after the MAAD tour.
 

In conjunction with Singapore Heritage Festival 2012, we are organizing a Heritage Tour to Joo Chiat on 21st July 5PM, this coming Saturday!

The Katong area is famous for its architecture, food eateries and distinctive charm. Our guides from CHIJ Katong Convent will take you on a tour of several places of interest such as the Chin Mee Chin Confectionery and Katong Antique House. Along the way we will trace the Peranakan roots of Katong, and learn more about its rich culture and heritage.

In view of the Singapore Night Festival 2012 IBAH tour that we will be holding on the 31st August night, we have decided to extend the submission deadline to 1st SEPT 2359hours!

Art and culture spill onto the streets at Night Festival, a nocturnal extravaganza of spectacular aerial performances, music, dance and installation artworks at the heart of Bras Basah.Bugis precinct, Singapore’s arts and heritage district. The main events will take place on the public green spaces of the Singapore Management University, with late night openings and special events at cultural venues like the National Museum of Singapore, Singapore Art Museum, the Peranakan Museum, The Substation, and more!

P.S. The major highlight, Aerial Performances by Fuerzabruta (Argentina), is only going to be performed on 31st August and 1st September. We highly recommend that you come with us on 31st August as it is a Friday and therefore a little lesser people to squirm around with you while you position your camera!
