philosophy of camera gear acquisition

hello, its been a while since I've started a bo liao thread.

Can you describe in 1 sentence what is your camera gear acquisition philosophy?

Is it "I want to get the very best" or "only 1.4 and 2.8 for me"

Currently for me it's "light, cheap, reasonable performance" ... trying to get older/cheap primes for my personal use... although there's a voice :devil: that tells me to get lenses with 4 digit price tags.


of course for the pros, the answer would be "as my work dictates".

Any bo liao answers?

Buy second hand if possible, the penultimate model (that means NOT the latest model - but the one before that) from second hand shops or friends who take good care of equipment - and only once in a while, so as not to overspend.

I get oem lens, no third party.
I try to get latest model first. Mk2. 2012 model, etc.
I get the best lens for the most frequent use focus length.
I buy only when I need.
I sell when I don't need.
