Perspective in photography

Hi everyone, I've just been to Comex 07 yesterday and its my 1st time trying to shoot with DSLR for models. I'm there to practice shooting potraits (bcos no need to pay ) and also gain some experience.

However I heard uncle passing by when me and my friend were shooting intel models giving comments in cantonese " tai hum sup lao eng xiong" translated to eng --> (see those cheekopek taking pictures)

I do feel offended. How come they can't see photography in another perspective? I'm not good in words but just feel like sharing this bad comment I've heard. Think many bro here shoots events too even model in bikini shoot. But why do people have to mix photography with pornography? :angry:

Instead of discerning the symptoms of the increasing disregard for photography (which is the arguements that most have put forth here), I want to show how instead the professionals and advanced enthuasists are being misunderstood. We are artists of the light in our own right. (Refering to the community of amatuers and professionals) Other artists such as baskers (assuming they are really in it for art) have misunderstood what we do and assume we look at them as freakshows (not all do but from the replys this is one of the arguements). Infact, we have been looked upon us as people who block parade views, organising authorities usually give not more importance to event photographers than a pass to walk around but with instructions to do walk here and here and here and just about everywhere, associated with the subject of crime and easily targeted by guards tasked to tell people not to photograph anything.

If anything is to be changed, we society itself to clean up the sterotypical and bad image of our artform. We need to have photography return to its prestigious honour of being an art of light. We cannot have everyone looking at photographers and thinking that their picture will be up on stomp or something. (hence I look upon stomp with much disdain; public reporting though has its good intentions is also being spoilt.)

When people see a bunch of camera-totting peeps jostling to shoot young girls in little cloth, they imagine things... :bsmilie:

y practise from such events? go sign up and pay $$ to get DECENT photos from so many shoot organisers!

save urself the sad state of being labeled as a han-sup-loh in such events la. dun even understand why there would be anyone who would do such shoots in the 1st place?!?

Actually if you want to practise portraits get a friend lah. Any friend, male or female will do. I think shooting models in IT shows..... I think only the uncle is rude enough to say it out loud but quite a number of people will feel that way.

Frankly, I also brought my DSLR once an IT show a while back but I did not dare to take it out due to the perception of hum sup lao....

Even paid shoots in CS.... aiya why the subject is always sexy bikini clad girls.... Surely there is a little bit of "hum sup" inside all these paid shoots....

I am so jealous as I cannot join any of them

I agree with what u say...nowadays, people who carry a dslr will get stare at and even get spot check or kena warn by security not to take photo (got spot check by mrt security and warn by a security officer at an officer block in town---all within a week).....that's y sometimes want to take photo also must think twice:cry:

But as long as u enjoy photography and enjoy what u r doing, dun let what other pple say affect u.

this is what the general public and lot of other photographers here think about those people snapping photos of the models during the tradeshows happily, maybe he is the only one said out loud.
there is no law says you can't take photos of those models during the trade shows, but for sure that the trade show models are being hired is to attract crowds, not photographers. so if you want to do this, guess you have to put up with these type of comments from others.

honestly, "hum sup" or not, I can't be sure, but sure looks very cheapo to shoot models there.

there is no law says you can't take photos of those models during the trade shows, but for sure that the trade show models are being hired is to attract crowds, not photographers. so if you want to do this, guess you have to put up with these type of comments from others.
