Singapore, Singapore, Singapor
The definitive Pentax shopping thread(I'm working on it!)

Prices in USD unless stated otherwise
Generally most online retailers offer free domestic shipping, certain retailers like Amazon US offer international shipping to Singapore but may charge additional due to GST(chargeable for pruchases above SGD 400), and insurance. Alternatively if the retailer only offers domestic shipping or really expensive international shipping you can use a Freight forwarder to save cost Eg. 65daigou/comgateway/hopshopgo etc .

When shipping from overseas always purchase with insurance, because cameras especially lenses are fragile! Buying from overseas means it does not have local warranty, you may or may not be able to get your purchases serviced locally.

Out of curiosity, i went over to amazon to search for the 645D USD $3,499.00 .....Medium Format goodies at dslr prices...

I find that the local price is too far off the mark even when its supposed to be a 'sale price'.

I've not been following up on prices that much since I've got nothing to buy at the moment.
But the ones I've seen on Pentax Forums always catches my eye.

Basically, it seems US sellers are pretty aggressive with the sales.

KS2 - US$449.59
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=1116175&is=REG&ap=y&m=Y&A=details&Q=

The KS2 is without a doubt one of the best DSLR for the price point, and if we can get it closer to the US price, I'm sure more people will buy.
Just like there was a boom in Kx users in the past.

In fact, it seems PF has a summary of what Adorama and B&H are selling lenses at :
For ref :
http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/...93-b-h-adorama-deal-roundup-week-dec-7th.html

The DA50/1.8 is only US$91 only at B&H.

All this needs to take into account how one values warranty, and need to add in shipping, GST as well.
But it does seem that the local 'sale' price is disappointing.

Hopefully more can be done locally for the brand to grow.

From my previous visit to Japan (2014), tourists get tax off over the listed price.
Not bad if one knows anyone in Jpn or is going there soon.

Sometimes I wonder if the distributor is keen on promoting the brand or it is just to helm the brand in name only. Not much of promotions and this latest promotion is really prices from the last time we saw.

Fully agreed. I've not purchase any Pentax gears locally since my last K30 before distributorship changed. I guess this plain simple out of head reason is justifiable... "Local price totally not competitive enough to draw me back to support local."

Same issue like the old distributor Shirro where prices were high and products were not well represented in shops. You want to buy, need to order. How to buy when you cannot even touch and feel if the product is right for you?

DUH!!

My first purchase of a Pentax DSLR was from an old friend, Arthur, then got the K20D when Shirro changed to Emjay. Supported them again when I got the K5 and the K30. That was all local. The other bodies were all from buddies who upgraded.

I think these big guys just have a better bargaining power. Our local distributor just can't cope with this evolving market and changing landscape. I think we all want to support local, just need the distributor to get us the reasons to support them.

I don't think they are here to grow the community, and I don't see any efforts from them to do likewise.

the last time I saw pentax local sale was when I bought my K01, 500+sgd with DA40XS.

and my friend bought K30 kit when the year end sale at 599 SGD.

recently I only saw pentax kit deals from about 1000 sgd from Pentax, not to mention 1400sgd K3 deal stay the same price for whole year locally.

wow the price gap is wide.
Imagine if i recommend friends to pentax but to save money they would need to buy from oversea to save significance amount of money. Local price is abit too high but even with warrenty is also does not command this high a markup. what i can say is US price really look amazing to us.

I think its a big problem this one.

Its so hard to recommend friends/colleagues to buy Pentax when I know that they can get better prices elsewhere.
I don't even want to go the "buy Pentax but you gotta buy online route", since which layman will do that.
So in the end, since Canikony is more well known to them anyway, they end up buying them instead.

645Z out hence clearing 645D

The last time one of my students bought the K50 was when they sold at $768 down from $988 and it was only last year. Now the price go up again? Wah . . .

I still feel that the Amazon jpy is the least expensive online shop to buy your stuff. Do monitor the price closely if you wish to buy from them as the price would fluctuate from day to day. you may get a good price given that you have patience...

So how does one ship here via Amazon Jpn?

I signed up to Tenso, but never got to use it.

I've been to Japan the past 2yrs, so I got my stuff direct from the stores there instead.

When u sign up Tenson, u got to provide them your sg address. In your Tenson, My page there's a Japan address, that look like this:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Shipping address for online shopping
〒120-0023
東京都 足立区 千住曙町42-4 TS186531 転送コム
----------------------------------------------------------
When u buying from Amazon Japan, u select the ship to above address. Upon arrival, Tenso will repack your items, If u have multiple items it can be

stored at the warehouse for up to 1 month, you then can apply for consolidation of all items into a carton box, it charges u for just a single

shipment + handling. Buying a single item, normally cost about $30-50, or even cheaper. Consolidation of items would cost around $100 , depending on

the weight though. Once the item arrive at their warehouse it'll be reflected on the "My page" tenso, you can use paypal to pay the shipping cost &

they ship out the item about 1 working day. About 1 week time you'll receive your item if there's no hold-up. You can use the tracking packet that

Tenso provided to gauge the item arrival time. When the packet arrive in SG, Singpost will deliver it to you. A word of caution on Singpost though, if

you are not at home, the postman may deliver the item straight to POP station without leaving your any advise notice to collect the item.

If this happen, You call singpost headoffice: 68412000. Don't call 1800 XXXXXX, they get u to nowhere.

Tenso is a very reliable shipping company, but for singpost I'm very disappointed with them. Should you have any questions I would be happy to answer

for you. Happy shopping :):):)

Fantastic info! :)

Now, I need to think of what I want to buy. ;)

Bro, buy items only tag as "Fulfilled by Amazon", because if you run into issue their sale support term would help you & they write in English.

Other than that all shops only reply you in Japanese language. To save the cost, avoid paying through Visa or American express, because their service

charge are higher. I use DBS master card, it's about 2.4 %. How much to charge you depend on that day exchange rate.

For master card as follows.

https://www.mastercard.com/global/currencyconversion/

One thing to note, when Amazon USA has an offer for certain Lenses, the Amazon Jpy price would come down. Do add the item to your wish list so you know

when there's a price drop. Be patience don't buy on impulse, u can save quite a lot. Lastly, do ensure all shipping address & credit card info are

filled in correctly to ensure a smooth shopping experience.

Yup, the local pricing ain't attractive enough.
Hope the distro and Ricoh Japan could work something out. Although we are a small market here, it does not meant there is ZERO market here. :(

I am looking forward to the Full frame camera and hoping for a good price so that i could buy locally.
