Panning

Hiya,

Newbie here. :embrass:

Just wondering if anyone can teach me how to do panning using EOS350D?

Most panning articles I read don't start from the basics.

For example,

Focal length: 75mm
ISO 100
F 22
1/30 sec

But, firstly, which dial do i turn to? M, AV, TV?
ISO ... hmmm think I know this one
F22 ... meaning from 3.5 to 22, I choose 22?
1/30 sec ... meaning from some wierd numbers with eg 0"3 to 4000, I choose 30?

What else show I look out for? Should I use a tripod?

Or maybe any useful beginner webbies for newbs like me?

Hi there,

For panning, you need to use Shutter Priority (S) or TV mode.
For ISO, depends on what is the lowest ISO you can go.
Since you are using Shutter Priority, you need not to worry about the Aperture.
For the shutter speed, there is quite a few range to choose from. Some may recommend 1/15, 1/25, 1/50.
The focal length, try to use wide angle so that you can do a crop later.

BTW, no tripod needed.

very wrong here.. learn panning is not bout what mode or setting or which bla bla to be able to pann... (although shutter is usually prior concern)

frm your above Qs, and as what you've quoted.. start from the basic of photography... grab some books, understand EV is primary...

Welcome. Basics is important, you mainly need to understand the relationship between ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed and how they affect one another.

Anyway, do try out and practise more. All the best.
