Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX100 & LEICA D-Lux Type 109

Damn ... Just called Leica and preordered Liao. SGD1700 , 3 years international warranty and coming in next month.

wa seh...quick hands haha!

actually i agree with you on this. hehe was thinking of getting the black leica over the black lumix too... until i saw the silver color one :p

i hope the leica tweaked colors are really better, cuz i never used to like the skin tones from the panasonic image processing engines.... same for gm1 hehe....although capable but relegated for use by the wife keke

but still have time to think hehe... make this a christmas present for myself kekeke....

If u shoot JPEG , it translates to Leica tweaked colors which to me is worth the difference :) Similar to the differences between the Dlux6 and the LX7 back then, thankfully you don't end up just paying more for a red dot.

A 3yr international warranty plus Lightroom makes the deal more value for money too lol.

learn from Keith ,pick up the phone now and call leica to book 1 set.

No hurry since it's only coming in next month by right I was crazy enough to do a side by side comparison of the Lumix with the Dlux6 back then and I left convinced :) the firmware is also different.

Skin tone preference my topmost preference is still Fujifilm followed by closely by Olympus, Leica then the other brands.

Thank to u bro, I'm now $1700 poorer lol. Was waiting for Leica raffles branch to call me up as they usually do but this time your post came faster

Ok , my reputation starting to get affected ._____.

hahaha, keith jialat lah u. hey guys, keep this thread for LX100 please, thanks!

Oki , back to the LX100 ;)

For USD899 and such specs I really am quite amazed.

Seriously as Panasonic in the past did have the habit of setting quite high prices but this time I think they did right. It's even cheaper than the X100t by a margin and not to say that Pana beat Oly to release the first fixed lens MFT camera.

Looks great. Just like a modernized version of the LC1 which I still have. I think the LC1 looks better though.

Only setback is there no pop up flash.. so to say I.cant use this for my macro shoot... really sad...

Well if you don't mind not changing a lens, and thinking of the body as about $500-$600, it's an amazing price for the zoom lens on it.

Strangely I'm now contemplating this instead of a Oly 12-40mm f2.8 lens.
Apples to oranges comparison I know but functionally I can see some advantages to buying an LX100 instead.

Handling wise, if I'm not mistaken this should be quite similar to the LC1.
Lens dial to A, shutter dial to A = Auto
Lens dial to A, set shutter = Shutter priority
Shutter dial to A, set aperture on lens = aperture priority
Set both aperture and shutter = full manual.
No need for mode dials. Totally intuitive so quick to 'switch' between shooting modes.

One thing I'm a little disappointed in is the lack of an on board flash though. The LC1's on can do both straight-on and 45 degree bounce. That little add-on flash doesn't look like it adds any functionality.

Battery life can be better but I wonder if we can squeeze more out of it with a little customisation and switching off unwanted functions.

All in all, very impressed.

Will the DOF expected to be same characteristics as 43? I read that it doesnt use the full 43 sensor, so when shooting, it is using a smaller part of the area.

Looks cool. If the image quality is almost the same as the 43 cameras (might have some loss due to the cropping to 12Mp) and better than the RX100, its a winner. I find myself sometimes stuck. The RX100 while good, still not quite up to mark. The Fuji XE2, X100 and EM10 meet my requirement for image quality. So if I can get a fairly portable and light camera that can give me quality, flexibility .. its worth it. Also looking at the Leica, since the price difference not that great. Is it true the JPEG engine is a bit better on the Leica with more pleasing colours?
