Paint-like effect on digital images

I just switched from using a Canon Ixus 40 to a Panasonic FX9. Both point-and-shoot slim cameras.

I noticed that the digital images I get are slightly different. With the Canon, when you zoom in on the images, there is a pixelated kind of look. With the Panasonic, it looks like the image was 'painted'. I am not sure why this is so. Is it the lens difference? Can anyone offer more information on this? Thanx

Just to ask did you use digital zoom?
Cause digital zoom WILL make picture look pixelated.

What jeff means is that expand both pictures to the same scale. i.e. 100% magnification.
You should never compare a smaller magnification to a larger one.

I understood what jeff meant When I said it doesn't matter I meant that no matter which zoom (both at 200%, 400%, etc.) I view it at, I would see the difference.

Less, not none. So your finding is okay.

Those diagrams make the FX9 seem much lousier than the Fuji F10!
