Touted as the the most advanced DSLR in Nikon’s DX range.

It features a DX-format 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor and EXPEED 4 image-processing engine. Its Advanced Multi-CAM 3500 II autofocus sensor module with 51 precise focus points captures super sharp images even in low light conditions. You can even film superior Full HD 1080/60p movies in 1.3x format, capturing distant subjects in a larger size. Share your images and movies instantly with the convenient built-in Wi-Fi and NFC – a first for Nikon DSLRs.

I brought it with me on my trip, can it compete against it's bigger FX brothers?

Dual SD Card slots that accepts SD, SDHC (UHS-I compliant), SDXC (UHS-I compliant) memory cards. Slot 2 can be used for overflow or backup storage or for separate storage of copies created using NEF+JPEG; pictures can be copied between cards.

Not surprisingly Made in Thailand, the D810 is also Made in Thailand.

On the base plate you can find a standard 1/4–in. (ISO 1222) Tripod Socket, battery compartment that accepts one EN-EL15 rechargeable Li-ion battery. I like battery standardisation, less chargers to carry around and can use the spare batteries with others.

Is also accepts the optional MB-D15 multi-power battery pack with one Nikon EN-EL15 rechargeable Li-ion battery or six AA alkaline, Ni-MH, or lithium batteries.

Consumer level controls, same as the D750. Great if you want to use them as a pair, but not so good if it is a back up for a pro level camera.

Proper camera strap lugs, flash, bracketing and lens release button

The built-in flash has Auto, portrait, child, close up, night portrait, party/indoor, pet portrait, color sketch modes.
Auto flash with auto pop-up in P, S, A, M, food
Manual pop-up with button release
Guide No. is approx. 12/39, 12/39 with manual flash (m/ft, ISO 100, 20ºC/68ºF)
TTL: i-TTL flash control using 2016-pixel RGB sensor is available with built-in flash; i-TTL balanced fill-flash for digital SLR is used with matrix or center-weighted metering, standard i-TTL fill-flash for digital SLR with spot metering

Auto, auto with red-eye reduction, auto slow sync, auto slow sync with red-eye reduction, fill-flash, red-eye reduction, slow sync, slow sync with red-eye reduction, rear-curtain with slow sync, rear-curtain sync, off; Auto FP High-Speed Sync supported.

-3 to +1 EV in steps of 1/3 or 1/2 EV flash exposure compensation, very useful, learn how to use it. Nikon has the most advanced flash technology (IMHO), learn how to use it well.

Most importantly it also has commander mode for controlling other external Nikon flashes for Nikon Creative Lighting System (CLS)

the button to control the focus

AF-area mode: Face-priority AF, Wide-area AF, Normal-area AF, Subject-tracking AF

Autofocus: Contrast-detect AF anywhere in frame (camera selects focus point automatically when face-priority AF or subject-tracking AF is selected)

note that you can also control it via the switches on some lenses

High ISO noise control, I normally try to use as low as possible to get the best image quality.
But you still have to know how high you can go, with every iteration of its Expeed processor and sensor pairing.

for web sharing at ISO 6400 Full image

100% crops for pixel level peeping, how high would you go?
Shot with large JPEG fine to see what the camera can do and not my software. Other than putting the text and cropping, no other adjustments were made. All images at shot at F8, only ISO speed and shutter speed were changed.

pretty good result. Maybe you need to tweak the video setting. Was that a water droplet on the lens?
Must be enjoying your time there.
