Hello Experts;

I have a 450D with 18-55 IS kit lens and is interested in macro shots.With this lens,is it better to get a close up lens like Canon 500 D(Is it available for this lens diameter?) or reverse mounting setup for better IQ?

Any guidance towards model and price would be well appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Do get a dedicated macro lens if you're really interested in macro.

With Raynox and reverse lens setups, you'd lose interest very quickly as it's not easy (you'd have to move the whole rig back and forth to get the subject in focus)

Welwome to CS,

Don't forget extension tube issue. Megaweb has written a helpful special post about "FAQs in Macros & close-ups" : http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=261356 in "macros & close-ups" section. It's worth making some search on the forum because there is a lot of interesting things to read and to learn. There are numerous nice examples taken with all sorts of macro converters to help you to make up your mind by yourself, according to the pictures you want to carry out with your 18-55mm/3,5-5,6 EF-S IS Canon.

Best regards,

If you choose to buy a Hoya close-up filter that fits to your 18-55mm IS Canon, the diameter will be 58mm : not sure it would fit to your coming lenses. Some buy the largest diameter and use adaptator rings for smaller diameter lenses, IMHO it's an expensive issue.

The Raynox DCR-250 is more versatile. Extension tubes also fit to any of same brand lenses.

Thanks guys.is it better to get a Hoya +3 like below or a Raynox 250 below it for 18-55 IS kit lens?If one day I got a 18-200mm lens would these still be compatible?

Thnx in advance

The close up filter must be of the same diameter of your lens for screw on type. Raynox is good for any lens with diameter of 49mm to 67mm. The 18-200mm len's diameter is 72mm so raynox is out and you will need another 72mm +3/+4 close up filter.

I recommend raynox 250 dcr to go with your current 18-55mm lens.
