While waiting for Adobe to come up with the update to enable the opening of D850 NEF files, I found a hack.
You can download D850 NEF files from: http://www.photographyblog.com/previews/nikon_d850_photos/
Next, you need to use a binary editor. I used "bvi" in Linux but you can use say https://www.hhdsoftware.com/free-hex-editor in Windows. On the right hand ASCII panel, look for the string "Nikon D850". Change it to say "D810". Save your edit and just open the NEF file in Photoshop and Lightroom (both tested).
So far, 2 friends who have done it said "SOLID!" while another 2 said "blah... no better than my D810 and ISO 12800 is unusable." You decide
