well said.. seems like most pedestrains worry about getting fined more than getting killed or worse, causing the poor driver to have to live thru this trauma and get fined/suspended/jailed for the idiot pedestrain who jaywalk...

They din't have time to issue the summons on the spot.. a lot of people were caught according to my friend.. they just took down name, nric and address and say will send 'it' (dunno what is 'it') to their houses.

The lorry.. dunno whether it was fined for illegal parking. :bigeyes: but since he contributed to the whole operation. It might have been planted there by the police themselves! :bsmilie:

Oh well.. hope the fine stays at $50 after 15yrs..

true.. There are those that jaywalk like they own the road and those that jaywalk becos there are no cars on the road and the 'man' is still red!

Near my house is a bend and a blind spot for drivers and people, families with kids and all just stroll across the road like they own the road. Honk at them, flash highbeam they just look at you and continue. Some don't even bother to look.

When I say stroll, i seriously mean stroll. Once I had to slow to nearly a complete stop for this idiot to sashay to the centre divider. Then she can still look at me with an irritated look and gave a 'hpmh!' kind of look away. :angry:

This is utterlly bullshit. Singapore government are (1) Nothing to do, go catch jaywalker for what? (2) Too protective (3) Busy upkeeping sg as a FINE country

If they really wanna prevent ppl from jaywalking, just put a fence or divider around it... else?... people are responsible for their own life.

Hmmm I thought this is long gone but it seems that the police is back to catch jaywalkers. I've been to that area many many times but have never seen anyone getting caught there before. I too am guilty of crossing the road when there is no traffic at all. Sure is better than to wait for the red man to turn green. Got to be more careful now.

That area must be careful. I was sitting in Long John Silver makaning and saw 2 policewman and 2 policeman catching. They hid behind the pillars and when the traffic was "clear" and people jawalked, they just pop out. They will park their vehicles just around the Old Capitol small lanes, i saw a police van, 1 fast response car and 1 volvo S40T5 unmarked type and 1 TP bike.

i don't know if you are refering to the same place, but i believe you are refering to the big main road outside City Hall mrt station, along Capitol where Breadtalk is?

that reminded me of an incident that happened there a few months back. it was a hectic morning and everybody was rushing to work. we were all standing by the kerb, waiting for the traffic light to turn red and then jaywalk across the road.

so happens there was this lady beside me. she seemed to be in a big rush and dashed across the road the moment the traffic stopped. but what she failed to notice was this foreign worker who came from the right riding a bicycle! he managed to 'siam' her, but in the process, causing her to drop her files and her documents went flying all over the place.

the foreign worker continued riding on (lol!!) being the kind soul, i helped her collect her scattered documents. so happens there was this car turning from the right into our lane at this moment. she didn't notice the car as she was too busy retrieving her papers.

luckily, the car was traveling at a slow speed, and was able to stop quite a distance from us, waiting patiently for us (he waited quite a while actually). at this moment in time, she looked up and saw the car, and gave off the most hysterical scream as if she was about to be knocked down :bigeyes: i tell you it was hilarious!! :bsmilie: i couldn't help but laugh.

erm..ok..so what is the morality of this story?

The moral of this story is: always avoid foreign worker on bicycle

WE had a self confession article in the monthly uni newspaper I was working on, and there was a confession about jay walking, just across the casino (brisbane).
$10 per second jaywalking. (yes per second)Talk about Singapore being a FINE city...here more jia liat for jaywalking.

don't know, that's just what the person said. I still have the paper, i'ts in front of me right now, i'll quote it:

"Not only were we fined $30 ($10 for each second of our unforgivable crime spree!) we later witnessed the "jaywalking" dragnet spread its pervasing wings further."

It goes on to say later that:

1) In New York, the fine for jaywalking is US $80
2) If a male was caught jaywalking in Jakarta, he must do ten push-ups on the spot, and if it was female, she must stand on one foot for ten seconds, touching her left ear with her right hand. (this part sounds more like a drink driving, thing, but who knows, anyone can confirm this?)

3 secs to cross the road?! they must have been jay-running. pushups i don't mind doing, but USD80 is a bit steep. *note to self* do not jaywalk in NY.
