Quite enthusiastic earlier with Olympus DSLR and Zuiko Digital 11-22mm F2.8-3.5 lens until I found out that the wide angle not that wide after convert to f35mm equiv. Refer below to calculate:

:(

becomes a 22-44 equiv lor. not wide enuf then the 7-14 lor. the option is there, whether u want to opt for it its another story. the price of the 7-14 is indeed too steep for most but the quality it produces is sworn by all. too ex? that depends if u want that kind of quality...

It's actually $2K+ and there are many here who would not even blink an eye spending similar amounts or more on other expensive Canon or Nikon lenses. The ZD 7-14mm is a unique lens as it has the widest coverage and best-corrected optics amongst all the ultra-wide angle lenses of any make in the market bar none. Worth every cent if you ask me or anyone who has one. ;)

Check out the review here...

7-14 is $2K+ with weather proof. (14mm equivalent)

How much is 16-35mm ? (16mm and 25.6mm equivalent)

How much is 12-24mm ? (18mm equivalent)

It was the first lens that came with my E-500. I had use film for many years, and had to decide on a system. In the end, the Olympus lenses attracted me to the 4/3 format, though I must say I do have issues with the fact that there is still not an updated pro body.

Heard they are coming out with a semi-pro/pro body in this year Photokina (September). Don't know how true is it.

Other body that could be launched during Photokina including:
1)Canon EOS 1D Mark III 20MP
2)Nikon D80/D80s 10.2MP
3)Olympus E-5 7.9MP
4)Pentax also....

Not sure about what are the features will be included also....just wait and see..hehehe

if wan to go wide on 4/3 go for the zuiko 7-14mm lo. According to my "limited knowledge" the 7-14mm is the widest wide angle zoom lens in the market rite now even after conversion it is a 14-28mm, as for the DX format the widest known to me is sigma 10-20mm which is ard like 15-30 after conversion and quality is no where near zuikos.. any wider u'll have to go fisheye.

In 35mm FOV equivalent, 7-14 is 14-28mm.

I think it's the widest angles zoom lens with dust and drip proof sealing.

Well, I think it is still very much on personal preference.

But if with Canon D5 or Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II mount with Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM equal to 10-22mm in 35mm FOV; also mean widest available. ;)

Those come with a price though...

Better to spend it on the 35-100 and the upcoming 14-35

You can't mount a EFS lens on a 5D or 1Ds mkII. The Sigma 12-24 on FF would be 12-24mm though.

But the cost of the Canon 5D body alone is more than a Olympus DSLR (+ 2 kit lenses) and the ZD 7-14mm combined and then some. Throw in the cost of a Sigma 12-24mm or other FF ultra-wide angle lens and you could have paid enough to buy another semi-pro Oly lens or two as well, leading to an essentially complete 4/3 system. :dunno:

However, if by 'personal preference' you meant you prefer the Canon (say) name to Olympus regardless of cost or specifications, then this discussion is rather futile. In which case, just go ahead and buy whatever camera brand you prefer, shoot and post your pics instead. No brands are perfect and all brands of DSLRs will give good pics in the right hands. ;)

mmm... To my horror too, I also discover that Canon tele is not so tele. The 300mm that I bought is only 480mm. I was forced to get Oly instead bcos it is 600mm.

Oh, poor, poor you ! Forced to downgrade your choice of a camera system to the lowly reputed Olympus 4/3 system because of this. :D

I would treat this thread as an information thread for those who are not sure about 4/3 system and to compare with other systems. Personally before doing all these research, I always thought that DLSR Focal length multiplier is always 1.5X.

Understand this will give you a better idea and information to choose the kind of systems that you required.;)

EF-S lens on FF body? One of the reason I got the Oly system is because these EF and EF-S thingy.

I always thought that EF/EF-S lenses can be mounted on any body.

We change the lenses to get different focal length, not body - it's confusing though, , 1x, 1.3x & 1.6x.

As for the Sigma 12-24, the results weren't very good even mounted on APS-C camera (350D), I can't imagine on the full frame, according to the test here:
