I haven't seen ur pix in SHQ so I can't comment much.

The AF system is based on contrast....so if ur subject has not much contrast (e.g. all black, all white) then there's a chance that the pix will turn out badly focused.

In this case, you can focus on the space next to ur subject (same distance, plz) lock the focus then move bacck to ur subject and snap. Or use manual focus.
