if you have brought it recently, they should exchange it for you, even AP gives 7 days 1-1 exchange
it's a common problem for the 2040z... i used one before.. it occurs when i used ISO 400, and the photo is underexposed/ or on the underexposed areas...
try to switch to ISO 100.. if it's still there, then go exchange it for a new one...

went to John and had my camera replaced. They even let me test 6 cameras....however, some lines are still noticeable when u taking low exposure photos..but not as serious as the photos above. Thanks for ur replies .

Hi guys,
I'm new here.
Very interested in digital photography, I did research for a DC on the web. After discovering this forum I've made my choice, brought a Oly 2040, and is now having the same problem as kolabong.
Night shots are taken in "P" mode, without tripod.
The only same property is that the ISO is 400.
Could that be the problem?
I didn't set anything myself, I only switch the camera to "P" mode.
While photos taken in daylight is ok.
What are your suggestions?
Should I ask for replacement or it is suppose to be like that?
Please advice.

Hmm....will setiing to ISO100 solve the 'verticle line' prob?
It could be due to the ISO400 setting, that introduce the 'noise' (?).

The ISO setting is AUTO by default.....under low-light situations the DC will switch to ISO200 or ISO400 to getter a brighter pix.
The prob is that the higher the ISO, the worse the pix quality.
Ur C-2040z has a fast F1.8 lens, at ISO100, u can still get good pix at exposure of a couple secs.
I set my C-2100UZ to default at ISO100 to reduce the image quality prob....u can do that too.
Under MODE SETUP in ur DC menu....set ALL RESET to OFF.

Too much noise @ ISO400.
A simple rule of thumb is the lower the ISO the better the pix quality....though this would require more exposure to get a proper shot.
