OK I give up. What is Bokeh??

It's some DOF effect right? See it everywhere but don't know what it is....

small aperture (high number e.g f16, f22, etc ) = Sharp subject and backgrounds.

Large aperture (low number e.g f1.4, f2.8, etc) = blur background, sharp subjects ...

Notice tat the way we say Large aperture is actually referring to SMALL 'f' numbers.

Vice versa when we say SMALL aperture, we are referring to BIG 'f' numbers.

Depth of Field (DOF) should be described using "shallow" or "deep". Not long or short.

There is three factors that affect the DOF. All three factors play an important part.

1) Focal length

The longer the focal length, the shallower the DOF.

2) Aperture

The larger the aperture (or lower f number), the shallower the DOF.

3) Subject to lens distance

The near the subject to the lens, the shallower the DOF.
