Hi, one of my friend went out of course towards the end of service term in OCS (just before the 23km road march), and has went through all the fieldcamps, weapons training.. etc. However, he is almost ORDing, and he still remains as a Private.

Is there any doctrine/guidelines to prove the point that he shouldn't have already been promoted to a Corporal? The chief clerk keeps on telling him that he can't be promoted to a Corporal cuz he's not been in a vocation for at least 5 months. (Don't ask me why, it's quite messy, but he just isn't).

after finish service term should be CPL.. since he haven't finish.. no idea liao
he power leh.. how to keng service term until nearing ORD? meaning he wun commission even if he complete the course?

EDIT: i think finish Tri-service should be CPL liao.. aiyah.. it's only a rank.. you should know SAF, Serve And er.. Free to go :bsmilie:

Of course not keng la.. lol. But after he went out of OCS, he became an attached personel for quite a few times, so he didn't have a proper vocation until a few months b4 ORD. Wait. He DID have a vocation, but he didn't go for the vocation course. Anyway, I'm not sure why he's attached so many times. lol.

EDIT: Aiya, can back pay alot you know? lol.

if within OCS and can get attached out means got some accompanying funny story liao. OCS cadets who gets "attached out" for long periods, return to training and gets commissioned with his cohort.. only brings about a type of 4 legged animal particularly in white.

Lol. No you've got it wrong. He went OOC towards the end of service term, and got posted out. Lol.

after 2 yr, with vocation..

now still a PTE..

that's horrible. my coy ppls get promoted to LCP within 6months. and for OCS, it's possible to get recommanded to be promoted to CPL after a certain time with OCS or with recommandation. if you're not promoted and they don't want to promote you, what can u do but suck thumb?

what is good about CPL? :sticktong

PFC....now, that is class...

too bad I am a 3SG, squeezed in the middle.

I remembered when in BMT, i got a section Sergeant only left with the last road march but his leg injured. So in the end OOC... When talking about such doctrine or guidelines, there is no concrete sentences to define what will a personnel do after he OOC from OCS. Its relatively a case by case basis. Unless its another officer steps in, things can get pretty much stuck there for good...

Hihi!! I'm from OCS also, so which wing your friend ooc from? And where he got posted to? actually there's a chart to show the promotion of a pte to cpl, and as long as you're a A level or diploma holder, you'll get your cpl rank, unless there's some screw-up in the paper work and stuff, which normally is the case. And when's your friend going to ord??

Leadership Phase (Tri-service) OOC: PTE
Service Term OOC: PTE
Service Term Completed: CPL
Pro Term OOC: CPL
Pro Term OOC (After 1 overseas training): Maybe 3SG
Joint Term OOC: 3SG

So I guess it's the Chief Clerk's fault. Giving excuses not to promote him :nono:

He's ORDing in a month's time...

Which means he's from either A,G,S or T wing right?

Just ask him to be glad he is ORDing in a month's time! Some of us including myself have a long way to go still. Thankfully I'm enjoying my vocation as a navy spec, else the time would really crawl.

Since a soldier OOC before completing the service term in OCS, then he will be a Private and to be send for a vocation course e.g. mechanic, comms storeman etc. If he remains as attached personal for short duration, likely he will return to OCS and start the service term over again. If he goes back to OCS and OOC again, he will be a Private again. If his ORD is near, then pray hard that he get his promotion.

If he fails his service term in OCS, he will probably be send to medic vocation course slowly gain promotion.

If he fails his senior term in OCS, he will get his Corporal and posted as combat specialist or equivalent.

So if he got posted out and attached to somewhere, but without having gone through any vocation course, he'll stay as a Private? Cause from what his Chief Clerk said, he remained as a Private because he was in the vocation + having gone for the vocation course, for less than 5 months.

anyway if he doesnt promote is the C.C might have forgotten about it .. reason now NS only 2yrs.

Last time when NS is 2.5yrs ...
PSLE/N/O level = LCP
A/poly = cfm CPL

I think remembered those pple during my NS time damn funny .. hoping CC would forget about then .. wont promote to CPL then can serve 2yrs NS. But alway last min kena promote :bsmilie:

so now whether u promote or not still 2yrs mah, but the thing is your NS allowance will be very low.

Didn't successfully pass a course (if any) still get promoted? If a recruit fails to pass his BMT can still be promoted to PTE?
